The Axis of Evil, Chashmal, and Psalm 75: What Job, Ezekiel, Egypt, and NASA Are All Pointing At

God Listed Three Directions. He Left One Out on Purpose.
Sit down. This one is going to rearrange some furniture in your mind.
The Psalm is 75. The writer is Asaph — one of David's chief musicians, a man whose job it was to stand before the ark of God and make music. He knows the theology. He knows the geography. He knows exactly what he is doing when he writes this:
"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."Psalm 75:6–7 · KJV
Count the directions. East. West. South. That is three. There are four points on a compass. Asaph is not a bad at geography. He does not forget things. He left out north on purpose.
The scholars noticed. The Treasury of David commentary — Charles Spurgeon's lifework — notes plainly: "Three quarters are mentioned, the north only being omitted." And then most of them moved on. They noticed the omission and walked right past the treasure buried in it.
Here is what it means. In Hebrew theological thought, you do not say "promotion does not come from the north" because — north is not a source of promotion. North IS the source. North is where God sits. You don't exclude the north from a list of places where God is not, any more than you would say "the light in this room does not come from the sun, the lamp, or the candle" while standing in broad daylight. You don't list the source in the negation. You list only the places that are not the source.
"Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south — But God is the judge."Asaph just told you where God sits. He used silence to do it.
The 19th-century commentator J.J. Stewart Perowne — one of the sharpest Hebrew scholars of his era — observed that "lifting up" in the Hebrew sense doesn't mean career promotion as we understand it. It means deliverance from trouble, safety, victory, exaltation over enemies. The image is of lifting up the head or the horn — the raised posture of a victorious warrior. And that kind of raising, says Asaph, does not come from the human horizon. It comes from above. From north. From the throne.
One psalm. Four compass points. Three listed. One gloriously, intentionally, beautifully absent. That is not accident. That is a man who knows where God lives and is too reverent to put His address in a list of places that don't matter.
"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south." Three directions listed. North deliberately omitted. Because north IS God — and you don't put the Source in a list of things that aren't the Source.
Psalm 75:6 · The Most Elegant Theological Argument Ever Made in Silence
Part II · Ezekiel 1 — Heaven's Front Door Opens Northward
The Most Terrifying Vision in the Bible Came from the North.
The year is 593 BCE. Ezekiel is a priest — a trained Temple man — sitting in exile by the Chebar River in Babylon. He is 30 years old, precisely the age when priests were supposed to begin their Temple service. Except there is no Temple. He is hundreds of miles away in a foreign country. And God, apparently, has decided that distance is not a problem.
The vision opens with one of the most specific directional statements in all of Scripture:
"And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire."Ezekiel 1:4 · KJV
Out of the north. The throne of God arrives from the north. Not from the east, where the sun rises. Not from the south, where Jerusalem's warm winds come from. From the north — the direction of the cosmic divine habitation that Job named, that David encoded in Psalm 48, that Lucifer coveted in Isaiah 14. When God decides to show Ezekiel the most detailed picture of His throne room that any human being has ever recorded — He comes from home. He comes from north.
The Word That Became Electricity
Now here is where your jaw should hit the floor. Right there in verse 4, in the fire at the center of the vision, Ezekiel uses a Hebrew word that has no clear etymology, appears only three times in the entire Bible — all in Ezekiel — and was so unusual that translators for thousands of years just shrugged and called it "amber."
The word is חַשְׁמַל — chashmal.
חַשְׁמַל
Chashmal · Ezekiel 1:4, 1:27, 8:2 · Only 3 occurrences in all of Scripture
The Word Nobody Could Define — Until We Invented Electricity
The Greek Septuagint translated it as elektron. The Latin Vulgate rendered it electrum. From those words, a 17th-century English scientist named William Gilbert coined the term electric. From electric came electricity. And in the 1880s, a Hebrew poet named Yehuda Leib Gordon proposed that the ancient biblical word chashmal should become modern Hebrew's word for electricity — because it was the closest thing the ancient world had to a description of electrical fire. Today, in Israel, the word for electricity IS chashmal. The power company is called Chevrat HaChashmal. Ezekiel described something that glowed, crackled, and moved like static electricity — 2,600 years before Ben Franklin flew a kite.
Etymology · Ancient to Modern · Language Trail
Chashmal (Hebrew, 593 BCE)
Ezekiel sees something in the fire at the center of God's throne vehicle and calls it chashmal. No one agrees on what it means. It may be a compound: chash (silence) + mal (speech) — the Talmud calls it "fire-speaking creatures" and "silent-then-speaking." It describes something that alternates between stillness and explosive energy.
Elektron (Greek Septuagint)
Translators render chashmal as the Greek word for amber — a substance known in antiquity for producing static sparks when rubbed.
Electricus (Latin, 1600s)
William Gilbert coins this term to describe the property of amber and other materials. "Giving off electricity when rubbed."
Electricity (English, 1600s)
Francis Bacon introduces the English form. The entire modern word for electricity traces directly back to the ancient Greek translation of Ezekiel's throne vision.
Chashmal (Modern Hebrew, 1923)
The word comes home. Israel's power company is founded using Ezekiel's word. The prophet who saw the throne named the force that would light the modern world.
Wheels Within Wheels — Ezekiel's Geometric Bombshell
After the fire and the chashmal, Ezekiel sees four living creatures — faces of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. Each with four wings. Each moving in all four directions simultaneously without turning. And then:
"Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the colour of a beryl: and their four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel."Ezekiel 1:15–16 · KJV
A wheel inside a wheel. Counter-rotating rings. Moving in all directions without turning. This is 593 BCE. Ezekiel has no vocabulary for what he is seeing. He does the best any human being could do: he describes geometry.
The geometric structure he describes — two interlocking forms spinning in opposite directions, capable of movement in any direction simultaneously — is the Merkabah. The Hebrew word for the entire vision. It means: chariot.
מֶרְכָּבָה
Merkavah / Merkabah · Hebrew · "Chariot / Vehicle"
Heaven's Transport System — Described in Sacred Geometry
The merkabah is two counter-rotating tetrahedrons — a three-dimensional Star of David. When inscribed within a sphere, the ratio of the sphere's radius to the tetrahedron's edge length is a specific mathematical constant found in the geometry of the Flower of Life — a pattern appearing in sacred sites from Egypt to India dating back over 10,000 years. Physicists who study torsion fields and spin geometry note that counter-rotating electromagnetic fields produce the same structural signature Ezekiel described. The prophet saw a vehicle. The mathematicians, 2,600 years later, are still working out the geometry.
Above the wheels, above the creatures, above all of it — a crystal firmament. And above the firmament, a sapphire throne. And on the throne, the likeness of a man, from whose waist upward glowed with chashmal — with electrical fire — and from whose waist downward blazed like a flame. Surrounded by a rainbow.
Ezekiel then does what any sane person would do. He falls on his face.
The whole thing came from the north.
The modern Hebrew word for electricity is chashmal — taken directly from Ezekiel's description of what he saw in the fire at the center of God's throne vehicle in 593 BCE. Ezekiel named our power grid. He just didn't know it yet.
Chashmal → Elektron → Electricus → Electricity → Chashmal — The word came full circle
Part III · The Axis of Evil — When NASA Found the Problem No One Can Explain
NASA Mapped the Oldest Light in the Universe. It Has a Preferred Direction. They Called It the Axis of Evil.
Let us talk about what should be impossible. Let us talk about the cosmic microwave background — the CMB — the faint heat signature of the Big Bang, the oldest light in the observable universe, the first photons that traveled freely after creation settled down enough to let light move. It is 13.8 billion years old. It fills the entire sky.
According to everything we know about cosmology — the Copernican Principle, the standard ΛCDM model, the foundational assumption that the universe has no special direction and no special center — the CMB should be the same in all directions. Statistically uniform. Isotropic. Random.
It is not.
NASA WMAP Data · Published 2005 · Physical Review Letters · Land & Magueijo, Imperial College London
When physicists Kate Land and João Magueijo analyzed the CMB using NASA's WMAP satellite data, they found something that "potentially has very damaging implications for the standard model of cosmology."
The quadrupole and octopole moments of the CMB — the largest-scale temperature patterns across the entire sky — are aligned. Not randomly. Not within normal statistical variance. They align along a single preferred axis running through the observable universe, rejecting statistical isotropy at greater than 99.9% confidence.
The probability of this happening by chance: less than 1 in 1,000. Some analyses push it lower.
The scientists named this anomaly the "Axis of Evil" — not as theology, but because it is evil to the standard model. It should not exist. It violates the Copernican Principle. It suggests the universe has a special direction. And that special direction aligns suspiciously with the ecliptic plane — the plane of our solar system — and with the direction of the solar system's motion through the cosmos.
The anomaly was confirmed not once but twice — first by WMAP, then independently by the European Space Agency's Planck satellite. It is real. It has not gone away. No one has explained it.
Let that breathe for a moment. The largest observable structure in the known universe — the temperature map of the oldest light in existence — has a preferred axis. A special direction. The universe is not isotropic. The universe has a north.
Now open your Bible to Job 26:7. "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place."
Job did not have a satellite. He did not have a microwave detector. He did not have the mathematics to analyze angular momentum distributions across 13.8 billion light-years of ancient photons. He had a conversation with God out of a whirlwind, and he wrote down what he learned. And what he wrote matches — in category, in direction, in cosmic scale — what two physicists at Imperial College London found in 2005 when they analyzed the most precise map of the universe ever produced.
The universe has a preferred axis. Job called it the north. NASA confirmed it. Everybody moved on because it was too theologically uncomfortable to sit with.
We are sitting with it today.
NASA named it the "Axis of Evil" because it is evil to the standard model of cosmology. The universe is not supposed to have a preferred direction. It does. The quadrupole and octopole of the cosmic microwave background align along a single axis at 99.9% confidence. Job called it "the north." Scientists called it a problem. Neither group is wrong.

Part IV · The Pyramids, the Pole, and the 26,000-Year Divine Clock
Every Pyramid. Every Temple. Every Sacred Site. They Were All Aiming at the Same Address.
Here is a fact that should stop every archaeologist, every engineer, every mathematician, and every believer in the same tracks: The Great Pyramid of Giza is aligned to true north with an accuracy of 3/60th of a degree. Modern GPS-calibrated construction crews struggle to match that precision. And they built it in 2560 BCE with copper tools and limestone sleds.
Why? Why does it matter so much that the pyramid points north — not roughly north, not generally northward, but north with an accuracy that embarrasses modern builders?
Ancient Astronomy · Egypt · 2600 BCE · The Thuban Alignment
When the Egyptians built the Great Pyramid, Polaris was not the North Star. The Earth's axial wobble — called precession — traces a circle among the stars every 26,000 years, changing which star sits at celestial north over time. In 2600 BCE, the pole star was Thuban — a star in the constellation Draco the Dragon.
The "air shaft" inside the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid aligned precisely with Thuban. The Egyptians called it "the nail that held up the heavens" — the single unchanging point around which all other stars revolved. Their dead Pharaoh was expected to ascend to join Thuban and "maintain order in the celestial realm." The pyramid was literally a launch vehicle aimed at the north celestial pole.
Every sacred structure, from Stonehenge to the Temple Mount to the Aztec calendar, shows the same fixation: the north celestial pole. Not the stars. Not a constellation. The pole itself — the address that precession moves around but never abandons.
The 26,000-Year Cycle — A Clock Hidden in Creation
Now here is where the mathematicians in the room need to lean in. The Earth's precession cycle is approximately 25,920 years — ancient sources rounded it to 26,000.
In that time, the north celestial pole traces a full circle through the sky, passing near different stars in turn. At the time of Job: one star. At the time of Moses: another. During Christ's ministry: effectively empty sky — no bright star near the pole. Today: Polaris, which will reach its closest approach to true north in 2102. In 14,000 years: Vega.
Every ancient civilization — Egyptian, Babylonian, Persian, Mayan, Chinese, Vedic — knew this cycle. They measured it independently and arrived at the same number. Not because they communicated. Because they were all watching the same thing, aiming at the same address, and recording what they saw. The address never changed. The star keeping the address shifted every few thousand years, like tenants in an eternal apartment.
Precession Data · Confirmed Astronomy
Years
One complete precession cycle. The ancient Babylonians called it the Great Year. The Hindus encoded it in their Yuga system. The Mayans built their calendar around multiples of it. Enoch's calendar — the 364-day solar year used by the Dead Sea Scrolls community — encodes mathematical relationships with the precession cycle through its jubilee and 490-year frameworks, yielding formulas that approximate pi to extraordinary precision when run at cosmic scale.
The ancient scholars were not primitive. They were mapping a clock that God built into the spin of the Earth itself — a clock that marks time in units no single human civilization would live long enough to complete. It is a clock designed for Someone who has always been there. And it points, every 26,000 years, to the same empty sky in the north where Job said God stretched out the heavens over the void.
Enoch's Calendar — Mathematics That Should Not Exist
The Book of Enoch — kept in the Ethiopian Bible canon, quoted directly in the New Testament book of Jude, cited by multiple early Church Fathers — operates on a 364-day solar calendar. Not 365. Not lunar. 364.
Why 364? Because 364 is exactly 52 weeks — divisible by 7, the number of divine completion, without remainder. Every date in this calendar falls on the same day of the week every year, forever. No drift. No confusion. A perfect, mathematically elegant structure that also encodes the number of seasons (4 × 91 = 364) and reconciles the "numbers of perfection and rebellion" (7 × 13 × 4 = 364).
When scholars run the Enochic calendar against the precession cycle, the jubilee system, and the 490-year prophetic periods — the mathematics converge on pi, on the solar year length, and on astronomical constants with a precision that has no business existing in texts written before calculus was invented. The Dead Sea Scrolls community used this calendar. So did the Temple priests in their rotation cycles. Someone gave Enoch a calendar that encodes the mathematics of creation itself.
Every ancient civilization — Egyptian, Babylonian, Mayan, Chinese, Vedic — independently measured the 26,000-year precession cycle. They weren't talking to each other. They were all watching the same address in the sky and recording who was keeping it that season.
The pole shifts. The address stays. Something lives there that the tenants come and go around.
Part V · The Table Nobody Has Ever Put in One Place
Every Voice Across 4,000 Years Pointing at the Same Coordinate
Let us do what scholars rarely do — put everything in one place and look at it together. Because when you do, the convergence is not subtle. It is overwhelming.
Source | Date | What They Said About the North | Modern Parallel |
Job 26:7 | ~2000+ BCE | God stretches the north over tohu — formless void. Earth hangs on nothing. | Boötes Void (330M ly). Expanding universe. Confirmed. |
Psalm 48:2 | ~950 BCE | Mount Zion — the city of the great King — is on the sides of the north (yarkethei tsaphon). | Heavenly Jerusalem. The uttermost north as divine address. |
Psalm 75:6 | ~950 BCE | Promotion comes from neither east, west, nor south. North deliberately omitted = north is God. | The silence encodes the source. Ancient rhetorical theology. |
Isaiah 14:13 | ~700 BCE | Lucifer declares he will seize "the sides of the north" — the mount of the congregation. | The fallen one confirms the address by trying to take it. |
Ezekiel 1:4 | 593 BCE | The whirlwind — the throne vehicle — comes out of the north. Chashmal fire in its center. | Chashmal becomes modern Hebrew for electricity. Divine origin of the concept. |
1 Enoch 14 | ~300 BCE | Enoch carried north and upward through crystal and fire to the throne at the highest heaven. | Ethiopian canon. The ascent trajectory is northward and upward. |
2 Enoch | ~1st c. BCE | Ten heavens. The tenth — highest, farthest, most exalted — holds the throne of God. | Consistent with the north = up = highest in all ancient cosmology. |
Revelation 4 | ~95 CE | Throne room: crystal, sea of glass, four living creatures, lightning — matches Ezekiel's vision exactly. | Same room. Same architecture. 688 years apart, two witnesses. |
Great Pyramid, Egypt | 2560 BCE | Aligned to north at 3/60° precision. Air shaft aimed at Thuban — the ancient pole star — "nail of heaven." | Confirmed by modern astronomical analysis. No satisfactory secular explanation for the precision. |
All Ancient Cultures | Various | Babylonian, Canaanite (Mount Zaphon), Persian, Chinese, Mayan — all locate divine abode at the north celestial pole. | Independent convergence. Not communication. Common observation of a real coordinate. |
NASA WMAP / ESA Planck | 2003–2013 | CMB has a preferred axis at 99.9% confidence. Dubbed the "Axis of Evil." Violates the Copernican Principle. | The universe has a special direction. No secular explanation. Job was right. |
Newton's Manuscripts | 1680–1727 | Over 1M words on biblical prophecy and the architecture of creation, using the same method as his physics. | Yahuda Collection, National Library of Israel. He believed the two were the same map. |
Look at that table. Read it slowly. Every row is documented. Every row is verifiable. When you lay them all flat in one place — the ancient poets, the prophets, the pharaohs, the mystics, the early Church, the Dead Sea Scrolls community, and the satellite data from NASA — they are all pointing at the same address. Some of them are 4,000 years apart.
None of them could have compared notes. The convergence is either the greatest coincidence in intellectual history, or it is multiple independent confirmations of a real location.
Here Is What This Means Right Now, In 2026
The thing you felt as a child — that sense that when the Rapture came, you would go up, and up was not just a direction but a destination, a place with geography, an address, a throne — was not childish imagination. It was ancient intuition responding to embedded truth.
Every civilization that ever looked at the night sky aimed their most sacred buildings northward. The man who discovered gravity spent more time on Scripture than on physics and believed they were the same map. The oldest light in the universe has a preferred direction that violates everything cosmology says should be true. Ezekiel saw electrical fire in the center of God's throne vehicle and named it with a word that became the modern word for electricity. Job said the north was stretched over formlessness — and the largest void in the known universe sits in the northern sky.
This is not an accident. This is a pattern. And patterns have authors.
The city of the great King is real. It is northward. It is at the uttermost parts — the yarkethei tsaphon. And the throne is occupied by Someone who has been there longer than the universe, who built a 26,000-year clock into the wobble of the Earth so that every civilization in all of history would spend their lives pointing at His house.
"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness." — Psalm 48:1
